How long do credit reporting agencies have to respond to dispute letters regarding errors?

The Fair Credit Reporting Act states that credit reporting agencies typically must investigate items you've disputed within 30 days.

Credit reporting agencies will not investigate or respond to your claim if it's deemed "frivolous." This may happen when a consumer is disputing all negative information without justifying the request or disputes the same errors more than once without providing additional information.
