Will I have to use a secured card forever after a bankruptcy or bad credit event?

If you prove that you can use credit responsibly, by keeping the balance on your secured credit card low, or at zero, and making timely payments, you’ll build positive credit that will eventually result in credit offers for an unsecured credit line, either by the creditor who issued the secured card, or other credit card issuers.

Typically, it takes anywhere from one year to 18 months to establish the history needed to move into unsecured credit cards.
